“No matter how busy I get practicing immigration law, I stop and remind myself that on the other end of the e-mail or phone is a live human being whose life depends greatly on the outcome of the case. Whoever says the practice of immigration law is just filling out forms has neglected to appreciate the impact checking the wrong box on the form can have on an individual or on the business enterprise relying on the individual’s services.”

When Vince graduated from Yale College over twenty years ago, the first job that he landed was with an immigration law firm in San Francisco, California. Little did he know the impact that this position would have on the rest of his career and his perspective on life. In fact the managing partner at the time looked him in the eye and said, “You come from a family of immigrants; serving immigrants is in your blood.” Little did he know how prophetic she was.

At this firm, his clients included corporate executives of Fortune 500 companies, extraordinary ability individuals, Buddhist monks and nuns, software developers, families with countless siblings, and even eighty-year-old grandmothers trying to apply for U.S. citizenship. The diversity of this clientele helped Vince empathize with people from all walks of life. He carries these experiences with him now even as he tries to counsel his clients on how to navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system. He does not just process their visa applications, but tries to understand their overall goals and objectives before strategizing the best options for them.

Vince has been practicing for years under the mentorship of one of the leading immigration practitioners in the country. Together, he and his mentor co-founded the law firm of Clark Lau LLC which operates under the mission of providing responsive and effective immigration strategies. Vince counsels employers and employees on a range of temporary and permanent immigration options. His clients include professionals, employers, investors, institutions, entrepreneurs, and families. He enjoys taking complex immigration concepts and breaking them down into tangible and comprehensible ideas for employers and employees. Vince and his team operate under the goal of responding to voicemails and e-mails the same day. This again has to do with the fact that he believes that clients have enough uncertainty in the immigration process that this is the least that he and his team can do to mitigate any anxieties.

Vince has also taken his passion for immigration law into the classroom at New England Law Boston where he has developed a business immigration curriculum and serves as an adjunct professor in business immigration law. Vince also speaks regularly locally and nationally in different venues on a range of immigration topics. He has served as the Chapter Chair of the New England Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (“AILA”), spoken annually at the AILA national conference, and served on various national AILA committees, including the U.S. Department of Labor liaison committee. When he is not practicing law, Vince is active with his church youth group and ascribes to be a marathon runner.
